TV & MG Dual NAAT Combo in Kathmandu

A specialized multiplex molecular assay screening simultaneously for Trichomonas vaginalis (TV) and Mycoplasma genitalium (MG). Specifically indicated for ongoing, unexplained urethritis or discharge where standard Chlamydia/Gonorrhea treatments failed.

Why Combine TV & MG Testing?

When patients in Kathmandu experience burning sensations or persistent clear/frothy discharge, doctors frequently treat empirically for Gonorrhea and Chlamydia. When symptoms persist, Trichomonas vaginalis (a protozoan) and Mycoplasma genitalium (a cell-wall-less bacterium) are the two most common culprits. This combo panel rules out both atypical pathogens in a single run.

Trichomonas vaginalis (TV)

Requires specific nitroimidazole antiprotozoal therapy. Missed in up to 50% of routine microscopy.

Mycoplasma genitalium (MG)

Requires specific fluoroquinolones (e.g., moxifloxacin). Resistant to doxycycline alone in over 70% of cases.

Sample Requirement & Preparation

Men: First-Catch Urine

Catch the initial 20-30 ml. Hold urine for 1 to 2 hours minimum before visiting the lab.

Women: Vaginal Swab or Urine

Vaginal swab provides the highest recovery rate. No douches 24 hours prior.
